Shadi Rahimi is a Deputy Producer at Al Jazeera’s online channel AJ+. She was previously the Acting Executive Producer of Engagement, directing the social media team that helped AJ+ become one of the top 10 video publishers on Facebook. She now travels often producing a team that has covered the biggest stories of the year, including unrest in Ferguson, the refugee crisis in Europe and conflict in Israel-Palestine. She is a mobile journalism advocate who regularly uses mobile phones to live stream and produce breaking content. She is a columnist on social media for the Poynter Institute, and is also co-directing a documentary about the Egyptian revolution. For her work she has been awarded the Kathryn Davis Fellowship for Peace, the Chips Quinn Fellowship, the Middlebury Fellowship in Environmental Journalism, and an Award of Excellence from the Freelance Unit of the Pacific Media Workers Guild and the ONA-Poynter Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media.
