Louise Tierney is the Director of Social Intelligence at SAM, an AI-powered global disruption monitoring tool. SAM detects breaking news and also powers social media search, curation and storytelling for some of the media industry’s largest brands such as the AP, Reuters, Bloomberg, AFP and the New York Times.
Louise is based in London where she previously worked as a Senior News Journalist with Storyful, the world's first social media news agency, monitoring social media for breaking news, viral videos and emerging trends. She joined Storyful in 2012 and established and oversaw the company's content licensing unit as head of sales for content. She has been a senior journalist with the company since 2015 and relocated to London in 2016 as the company launched a dedicated UK News channel.
She attended Poynter's Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media in 2018, and is a member of the Digital Women Leader's mentorship organisation.
She has previously written about the emotional impact on journalists of covering traumatic events and spoken about the role of social media in the 2017 UK Election. Louise completed an MSc in Strategic Management and Planning in the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in December 2017. Her dissertation focused on strategic management in journalism nonprofits. She previously completed a B.A. in Journalism and Irish in Dublin Institute of Technology and spent a semester studying at the Columbia School of Journalism in Missouri.
