As a freelance media consultant, Maike Olij (./bureaumaike) advises journalism organizations on strategic matters, especially on how to better connect with their audiences. A few of her current clients are the European Broadcasting Union, KRO-NCRV, Onderzoeksraad voor Veiligheid and NPO. The past six years she has been working at the NOS and NPO, advising the board and editor in chief and developing concrete concepts and formats. In 2016 her book Nieuwsbehoeften was published, giving insight into the motivations for people to consume news content. With a degree in Communication science and a history in advertising and non-governmental organizations, Maike always tries to combine both marketing and ideology with journalism. And as a member of the board of Stichting Vrouw & Media, she aims to improve the position of women in journalism.
