Marie is the founder and director of J+, the professional training arm of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. Under her direction, J+ has trained roughly 4,000 people in more than 70 individual workshops, summer and winter bootcamps, and customized group trainings. Training included teaching user centered/design thinking methods for audience engagement to groups as varied as a Danish journalism school, a large local newsroom (the Philadelphia Inquirer), and more. Marie also received this year a grant from the News Integrity Initiative to produce a series of video classes on pioneers of engagement journalism such as ProPublica’s Terry Parris, Jr. Prior to CUNY, Marie was the journalism program officer at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, where she worked with design firms like IDEO and LUMA Institute to provide consultation and training to grantees. Marie was also a daily newspaper reporter and the publisher of a hyperlocal news site, both in El Paso, Texas. She is originally from France.
