Biography

Rob McNeil is a specialist in the issue of migration and the media, based at the University of Oxford’s Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS). Rob is the Deputy Director of the Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford – a project which works to inform UK public debates on migration - and a researcher specialising in international media practices in the reporting of migration.

Rob began his career as a journalist in the 1990s, working for newspapers and magazines in the United Kingdom, including The Evening Standard, the Daily Mirror, Red Magazine and BBC Wildlife. In the early 2000s Rob began working for environmental and development non-profit organisations, including WWF-UK, Oxfam and Conservation International as a public relations manager and media strategist, before joining the University of Oxford in 2010 to help launch the Migration Observatory. In 2017 the Migration Observatory was awarded the UK Economic and Social Research Council’s award for outstanding impact on society.
