Knight Chair in Journalism, Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication


Stephen K. Doig is teaching data journalism as a Fulbright Distinguished Professor this fall at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. Since 1996, he has been the Knight Chair at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism of Arizona State University. Before joining ASU, he was Associate Editor/Research of the Miami Herald in Florida. Projects on which he worked at The Herald and at ASU have won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, the Investigative Reporters & Editors Award, the Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting, the George Polk Award for Medical Reporting, and other awards.  During his 20-year career at The Herald, he also served variously as state capital bureau chief, science editor, aviation writer, pollster and lottery columnist. He is a political science graduate of Dartmouth College and served in the U.S. Army as a combat correspondent during the Vietnam War. He has done training programs in data journalism for investigative reporters in more than 20 countries across Europe, Asia and Latin America.
