Biography
Steve leads the News Lab at Google, the company’s division focused on partnering with media and entrepreneurs to build the future of the news industry. With a focus on data journalism, media training, and innovative programming, the News Lab has a global scope with a particular focus on the U.S. and Europe. Steve began his career at Google in 2007 when he started YouTube’s news and politics team, launching such initiatives as the award-winning CNN/YouTube Presidential Debates, and the first-ever social media interview with President Obama, posing user-submitted questions to the President – a format his team has evolved every year after the State of the Union speech for the past 6 years. Originally from Northfield, Minnesota, Grove wrote for The Boston Globe and ABC News prior to joining Google. Steve serves on the Advisory Board of Witness, a video human rights organization, and is a Truman National Security Fellow.
